Things to Consider When Buying a Chainsaw Mill

Small sawmills designed for use by one or two operators for the purpose of milling logs into lumber are referred to as chainsaw mills. These mills were developed to cut lumber in certain remote regions of the world. At L-M Equipment Co. Inc., we offer high-grade, durable chainsaw mill options.

Several types of chainsaw mills are available on the market. One of the basic types consists of a steel guide bracket that is mounted to the chainsaw bar and lines up with a straight edge. More complex chainsaw mills utilize a track and frame system that is mounted to the chainsaw. These devices are similar in nature to portable band sawmills.

Production Capacity

Chainsaw mills have limited production capacity – they are not intended to be used to produce massive quantities of lumber, stack upon stack. However, if you need to make some boards, a chainsaw mill can help you utilize your lumber efficiently.

Cutting Performance

The only limit with regards to cutting performance is the length of your longest chainsaw bar. If your bar will reach across the log then you will be able to cut it into lumber. These machines are great for cutting wide slabs from large trees. If you plan to build tables with a single slab top, a chainsaw mill may be the perfect tool to use.

If you currently have a portable sawmill with cutting capacities that are limited, you may be able to add a chainsaw mill and use it to cut larger logs down to a reusable size. Then you can take smaller logs on to further production using your portable sawmill.

Portability

Chainsaw mills can go with you wherever you go. For example, if you are embarking upon a project to build a cabin in the woods, this type of sawmill can serve as your effective production tool. These sawmills can be packed and taken with you on the road.

If your budget is on the smaller side, consider a chainsaw mill. As well, remember that you will have to purchase a midsized chainsaw if you do not already have one in order to power the mill. The best option is to use a large professional grade saw.
